Sharon Stiles Hypnotherapy & NLP....

Change bad habits ~ stop smoking, biting your nails, blushing, losing your temper, drinking, gambling. Change your opinion of yourself ~ increase your confidence, be more motivated. Change anxieties and phobias so you can enjoy life without panic attacks, constantly being nervous or missing out on things. Change your stress into relaxation and replace depression and sadness with happiness.

Hypnotherapy, CBT, Chinosis, Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) are all powerful ways to help people help themselves to make positive and powerful changes in their lives....

Hypnotherapy allows you to focus on something in your life that you want to change. Hypnosis is a state that we often experience in our lives. Have you ever been completely absorbed in a book or film and been oblivious to everything else around you? Have you ever arrived somewhere but because your mind was on something else you didn't remember the actual journey? Both of these are examples of the total concentration that puts you into a trance. You shut out all other distractions and concentrate completely on the book, film or your thoughts. It is this ability that we use to create hypnosis. Once you are in a hypnotised state we can use this concentration to focus on what you want to change. A variety of techniques are used depending on the issue being addressed. Visualisation and suggestion are the key techniques. The whole process is very client-orientated and individual. I do not use a 'one size fits all' approach as each person is different and what works with one person doesn't work with another.

What happens in a hypnotherapy session....

Sharon will take you into a pleasant, relaxed state because if your body is relaxed your mind is more relaxed and receptive to change. Sharon can talk to the subconscious part of your mind, which is the part that needs to make any changes, as that is the part that deals with automatic behaviour and is the part that is allowing the unwanted behaviour to happen. One of the most important things to understand is that you are in complete control all the time. Sharon cannot make you do anything you don't want to do. Presumably, the reason you want to use hypnosis is to overcome something you have difficulty with. You want to overcome your phobia, reduce your stress or change something in your life. If you only think you want to do it but deep down you don't really want to then you won't change. You do not fall asleep during hypnosis, in fact you often feel very alert and remember everything that has happened.

I help people who want to get rid of a phobia or habit, increase confidence, control weight, stop smoking, use hypnosis for childbirth or are suffering from anxiety, insomnia or stress. I use hypnotherapy, CBT, NLP, EMDR & EFT. My guarantee is that if you don't feel you have had any benefit from the first session then I won't charge you for that session. Many of my clients are initially sceptical but benefit from the techniques.

Is hypnotherapy only for weak minded people

There is sometimes a misconception that you have a weak mind if you can be hypnotised. I think this is because a lot of people think that hypnosis is about someone else controlling you and so that would only happen if you didn't have a strong mind. That isn't the case. I love working with strong minded people because they can make the most rapid changes. A hypnotherapist helps you to think about things differently so that you can then react in a different way. You are the person who is in control all the time but the hypnotherapist helps you to use that control in a more appropriate way. Think of a strong person trying to open a door which is jammed. They push and push, using all their strength but the door won't move and they get more frustrated. If I tell them the door opens the other way and so they need to pull the door then they can use their strength in the right way, pull the door and so open it. I haven't physically helped in any way, I've simply given them the information they need to use their strength to achieve what they want. If you apply that same principle to someone who is strong minded then you can see that once a strong minded person is given the information they need to think about things differently then they can achieve the mental changes they want.

Does hypnosis really work

That's a question I'm regularly asked - "does hypnosis really work?"My answer is that it will if the person being hypnotised really wants it to work. That might sound like a way of getting me off the hook if the session isn't successful, but let me explain further. If your current behaviour is actually a benefit to you in some way then you are more unlikely to change. One part of you wants things to be different but another part doesn't because it's not sure what things will be like. For instance, if someone comes to me to stop smoking it might be because they think they ought to stop because everyone keeps nagging them to and because they know it's not good for them. But they enjoy smoking and so deep down they don't really want to stop.If someone has a phobia that makes life difficult then they want to get rid of the phobia but another part of them wants to keep it because having the phobis keeps them away from something they don't like. It's a reaction they are used to and they're not sure how they would react without the phobia. In both those instances part of the session would be discussing the pros and cons of change and what life will be like once the change has taken place. Hypnosis then helps your mind to feel more comfortable about that change and so it is more likely to happen.

No one s messing with my mind

I was interested in hypnosis for a long time but even though I recognised the power of it I didn't want anyone messing with my mind. That's the impression that a lot of people have about hypnosis. But in my hypnotherapy sessions that's not the case.I use the analogy of being in a car. The client is the driver and knows where s/he want to go but isn't sure exactly how to get there. I am in the passenger seat with a map and can tell the driver how to get to where s/he wants to. But the driver still has complete control of the car, can follow my directions if s/he wants to but isn't compelled to.In a hypnotherapy session I give suggestions and the client can take them on board to achieve the change s/he wants.
