About Us

Brief description

The Magpie and the Mirror�s collection of contemporary arts and crafts fills a bright and airy, elegantly proportioned Victorian shop in Clevedon�s Hill Road.

The Gallery's wide range of original woodcuts, engravings and lino prints, photography, hand-made jewellery, textiles, and ceramics are all by British makers, with an emphasis on work produced here in the West Country. As the name suggests, the Gallery looks for pieces which combine a storytelling element with the forms, textures and colours found in nature.

On the walls, Angie Lewin�s bold plant forms are juxtaposed with Catherine Hyde�s dreamscape hares and stags, and silver owls, mermaids, seashells and seaglass take their place alongside tiny frocks and figures in the jewellery cabinets.

The seaside feel continues in hand-carved flying bird mobiles, Poppy Treffry�s textiles embroidered with harbour scenes and fishing boats, Sarah Young�s lino and woodcuts of gales, lighthouses and rockpools and Adam Clutterbuck�s photographs of Clevedon's own pier and coastline.
