  • 5 waht a find

recently went to moreish for dinner and had a thoroughly enjoyable meal - this place never fails to please us. We had a lovely pudding - strawberry shortcake - which was delicious! As usual the service was brilliant; very helpful but not intrusive. A real local gem!

  • 1 Overpriced

Visited on a Tuesday lunchtime with three others (only diners there). Ordered four meals twent-five minutes later three arrived. Two had ordered the same and she had only written one down! Another wait for final meal. Thirty five pounds for a snack lunch is really taking the p***. I don't know how they have the nerve to stick on a 10% service charge when the service is non-existant. I hate to think how they would get on if the place was full.

  • 2 More? I'd had enough!

Hit and miss, miss, miss. With a short and succinct menu (just the one vegetarian option, 2 fish, 2 meat), Moreish stacks the odds in it's favour. However, whilst the kitchen proved more than competent at turning out a "mutton pudding" with a decent flourish, the traditional "Man's Safe Option" - rare British Sirloin steak - proved to be beyond it's capabilities. Arriving 15 minutes after the rest of our party had received their food, it was hidden under a pile of leaves and accompanied by 6, yes that's six, chips (stacked like Jenga - for maximum impact one presumes). My husband fought manly with it for 10 minutes, but it proved to have the consistency of a mouse mat and refused to cut. It was returned to the kitchen in a thoroughly un-British gesture of defiance. We were later told that as a favour we wouln't have to pay for it. We weren't intending to, but more of the bad grace later.I don't argue that when Moreish gets it right, the food is up to scratch, but, call me old-fashioned, some of it would make a fool of your mouth, as my grandmother was fond of sayingService from the kitchen was slow at best, and didn't exude a happy atmosphere, even before a complaint was made.At £19.95 for 2 dishes, £24.95 for three 50% of the menu also carrys supplements (£3.50 for the steak) and extras for vegetables. This, together with portions to squint at, certainly left these client wanting More (the steak-eater went hungry rather than delay the meal further). After some embarrassing wrangling over the bill (minus an inedible steak, service charge and a bottle of house wine), we were told that we were the ones who had offended and that service was not slow, despite it taking 3 hours to complete our meal. All in all a depressing night in a restaurant which made one think of the Emperor's New Clothes - why pay less for more?
