At Bristol Martial Arts Academy we place SAFETY before ego

Where It All Began...
It was February 1998 and Bristol Martial Arts Academy Founder & Chief Instructor Chris Beaumont took the plunge and started training in martial arts. The 'bug' that grasps so many people got hold and he was soon training four times a week. This soon turned into a passion that would become his full time job for the rest of his life...
Inspired by the energy, passion and commitment of his fellow students, he broke away from a 'normal job' and founded Bristol Martial Arts Academy shortly after achieving his first black belt in August 2001. Our award winning martial arts training programmes have provided a strong base to allow the academy to grow into a community strong hold. Our classes first started in school gyms and church halls across Bristol.

Excellent Classes!

I first heard about Bristol Martial Arts Academy through my sister. I use to go to a gym and do the workout classes and use the machines and thought I was getting a decent workout. I didn't even realise that I was only using a few muscles at the gym and getting a poor workout, until I did a kickboxing class and they were sore the following day! I have now been a regular member here for 3 years, and I try to go consistently even with my crazy work schedule. I am determined to get in better shape and so glad my sister dragged me in! Each class is different and makes me feel really good. The whole atmosphere of the place is very welcoming and makes you want to come every week.

I just started attending classes after being interested in Kickboxing for several years, and I am so glad I finally decided to go! Kickboxing is is a killer workout and a lot of fun. The instructors are very knowledgeable, attentive and helpful, and are willing to work with you one-on-one when needed. Highly recommended!

I love this place! Recovering from an accident where I strained my foot, I decided to try a few different fitness options to keep from getting bored. There was a special offer on for 3 weeks of classes and I bought it, since friends told me Kickboxing is a great way to get in shape and learn self-defence. It's also challenging and fun. The training mats help take the pressure off my foot and the instructors have given my special strength exercises to do whilst it recovers. Ive always found the instructors to be attentive, supportive and knowledgeable, and once my foot recovers from the strain, I'll step up my training even further. I can't recommend this place enough!

Classes are excellent, catering for all ability levels from complete beginner right through to advanced under the maxim of you get out what you put in. The coaches are excellent too, great technically, and making the classes fun, accessible and challenging. Classes can range from cardiovascular workouts to technical sessions to tournament and fight training for the more adventurous. Sparring is always rigorously supervised and egos and arrogance are definitely not welcome helping promote a cohesive and welcoming philosophy, with a team ethic. All in all, a great academy run by people who are passionate about martial arts and making it accessible and engaging.

I wasn't sure what to expect when I set out to look for a kickboxing class, but Chris really put me at ease when I started. We talked about goals and my strength and weakness. I felt very comfortable in the setting and I think that's very important when starting something new. I love the classes, each week is different and I feel stronger and more in confident. The facility is clean and has great equipment that serves perfectly the purpose. If you're looking for a radical change in your gym or fitness routine, I feel very comfortable sending you to Bristol Martial Arts Academy.

Hi, I just wanted to thank you very much for a brilliant karate birthday party recently. My son and all his friends had a wonderful time. The facility is clean, spacious and well equipped and the instructors had a lovely manner with the children. It was so nice to be able to relax and enjoy the party, instead of being stuck in the kitchen! Thank you :)
